ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Redshirt junior wide receiver Kwincy Hall (Washington, D.C.) shined by registering 139-yards in kick returns including his longest at 88-yards for the games winning touchdown with a minute left in regulation to lift the Bowie State football team past Elizabeth City State, 36-29 Saturday afternoon at Roebuck Stadium.
For the contest, Hall tallied three kickoff returns for an average of 46.3 yards while finishing with four punt returns for 101 yards. Graduate senior quarterback Dion Golatt, Jr. (Largo, MD) was 12-for-22 in pass completions for 261 yards and a TD while redshirt junior Keshane Hinckley (Laurel, MD) grabbed four receptions for 60-yards and redshirt sophomore receiver Kyle Parker (Bowie, MD) caught two passes for 99-yards and a TD. Redshirt sophomore running back Sam Doku (Silver Springs, MD) tacked nine carries for 21-yards and TD.
Redshirt sophomore defensive back Keith Williams (Baltimore, MD) led the Bulldogs defense with 10 tackles, followed by redshirt sophomore Kennypride Toh (Silver Spring, MD) with nine tackles and a pair of tackle for losses. Both redshirt senior defensive lineman Joshua Pryor (Baltimore, MD) and redshirt sophomore defensive lineman Shawan Lewis (Baltimore, MD) added seven tackles apiece as Lewis was the lone Bulldog with a sack on the afternoon.
It took the Bulldogs five plays for 66-yards to score the game's first touchdown, thanks to a three-yard from Doku in the opening quarter. The Vikings tied the game at seven-all on an 83-yard fumble return in the second quarter with 7:38 left. The Bulldogs then padded its score when Golatt, Jr. launched a filler for 80-yards to Parker at the 3:24 mark as Bowie State went ahead 13-7 after the extra point attempt went far left. However, ECSU ended the first half with a 20-yard reception TD for Chase Williams that provided the Vikings with a 14-13 edge over Bowie State at halftime.
To start the second half, during the opening drive for ECSU - a pick six for redshirt freshman defensive back Jadon Carter (Bryans Road, MD) gave Bowie State the lead (20-14) again with 13:23 on the game clock in the third quarter. The next drive, ECSU caught a break as the Bulldogs were called for one of its 16 total penalties, which resulted in a first down and footprint into the Bulldogs territory. The Vikings scored on eight-yard rush from Williams that put ECSU ahead 21-20 at the end of the third frame.
Bowie State started its drive at 14:46 in the fourth quarter and was able to draw up six plays for 51-yards down the field capped by a three-yard rushing TD for redshirt junior quarterback Larry Williams (Baltimore, MD) which grew a 26-21 lead for BSU with 12:37 left. After a quick three-and-out for ECSU, the Bulldogs moved the chains thanks to an offside call on the Vikings that set up a 39-yard field goal for redshirt sophomore kicker Justin Zavala (Bowie, MD) with under eight minutes remaining.
With a 29-21 lead, Bowie State remained in control until the Vikings ran up the middle for a four-yard rushing TD, followed by a two-point conversion that tied the game at 29-all as the game clock showed 1:05 left in regulation. On the ensuing possession, Hall fumbled the kickoff return and scooped it up for the 88-yards for the game winning TD.
Despite the 16 penalties for 156 yards, the Bulldogs combined for 409-yards of total offense, including 314 through the air and just 95 on the ground while ECSU tallied 280-yards of total offense (150 rushing) and responsible for 12 penalties for 68-yards.
The win improves the Bulldogs (2-2 North) record to 5-4 overall and 4-3 in CIAA action while the Vikings drop to 2-7 overall, 2-5 in the league and 1-3 in the North.
Bowie State will host Lincoln (PA) for its regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 5 and senior day. Game time is set for 1 p.m. from Bulldog Stadium.
