East Stroudsburg Holds off Bulldogs, 110-100

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State men's basketball team scored 100 points and shot the ball well (56-percent) from the field for the game, but the Bulldogs were unable to overcome a late minute second-half rally by the Warriors of East Stroudsburg, falling 110-100 inside A.C. Jordan Arena on Saturday. The Bulldogs are now 1-1, while the Warriors move to 2-0.
 
Six players scored in double figures for the Bulldogs, led by Warren Mouganda who finished with 19 points, he was 7-of-11 from the free throw line. Kyree Freeman-Davis tallied 18 points (7-9 FG), while Quinton Drayton, Mark Bradshaw and Anthony Carpenter all recorded 14 points apiece. Caleb Johnson added 11 points to round out the double digit scoring for BSU. Johnson and Carpenter led Bowie State on the glass with six rebounds each, respectively.
 
The game got off to a frenetic start as the teams combined for 52 points in the first 11 minutes which reflected a 28-24 advantage for ESU. The Warriors would build its lead as large as 16 points after a layup from Lakeem McAliley before the Bulldogs cut the deficit to single digits on a pair freebies from Freeman-Davis. The Warriors held a 12-point (60-48) lead at intermission after scoring back-to-back layups.
 
In the second half, Bowie State rallied from a 18-point deficit over the course of nearly 10 minutes capped off by a 3-pointer from Bradshaw at the 8:28 mark to pull within single digits (87-78). From there, BSU plowed away for a 14-12 scoring ratio to close the gap to seven but a pair of free throws allowed the Warriors to extend its lead to nine with 3:05 remaining.
 
Bowie State made another run ignited by a back-to-back 3-pointers from Freeman-Davis that pulled BSU within three (100-103) but ESU tacked on seven unanswered points to close out the game.
 
Bowie State's next game will be on Wednesday, Nov. 16 at No. 3/3 Indiana (PA) at 7:30 p.m. at the Kovalchick Convention & Athletic Complex.
