SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- The Bowie State men's basketball team bench produced 27 points, but the Bulldogs dropped a 70-58 decision to the Shippensburg (PA) Raiders on the road Monday.
The Bulldogs (2-6) had two players score in double figures, led by freshman Warren Mouganda (Bowie, MD), who had 15 points. Senior Quinton Drayton (Bowie, MD) tacked on 14 points and sophomore Caleb Johnson (Baltimore, MD) added six points and two steals.
Bowie State crashed the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in 10 second chance points led by junior Joel Webb (Forestville, MD) who finished the night with two.
Defensively, the Bulldogs held the Raiders shooters to just 39.3 percent from the field, including 22.2 percent from three-point range.
How It Happened
After falling behind 18-16, Bowie State went on a 5-0 run with 7:00 left in the first half to take a 21-18 lead. The Bulldogs then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 34-28.
Shippensburg (2-2) kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 62-48 advantage before Bowie State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Drayton's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 62-53 with 5:12 to go in the contest. The Raiders responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 70-58. Bowie State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for nine of its 30 total points.
