Bulldogs Light Up Shaw for 84-57 Win on Senior Day

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State women's basketball team (11-10, 9-5 CIAA) had their best shooting performance and all-around game on Saturday as the Bulldogs lit up the scoreboard on 3-pointers – shooting 46-perecent from beyond the arc for a dominating 84-57 win over the visiting Shaw Lady Bears (10-12, 7-6 CIAA) inside A.C. Jordan Arena in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action.

The Bulldogs tallied a season-high 20 made 3-pointers on 44 attempts, including a whopping 10-of-23 from downtown in the first half (43.5-percent) led by senior Drew Calhoun (New Carrollton, MD) with six in the first frame alone.

Calhoun led all scorers with a career-night of 27 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the 3-point line to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Freshman Andria Gadson (Bowie, MD) also had a career-night with 15 points, six assists and five rebounds while senior Talanya Hutton (Seat Pleasant, MD) chipped in 13 points, four rebounds and two assists in the winning effort.

Bowie State came out immediately with high energy that led to a 25-11 lead after one quarter. BSU shot 56-percent shooting, draining 9-of-16 field goals led by Calhoun who was 3-of-4 from beyond the arc for nine points. By the second quarter, Bowie State had built a lead of 17 midway through the frame on a 6-3 run capped off by a 3-pointer from Calhoun. In the final two minutes of the first half, the Bulldogs scored the last five points to lead by 20 (39-19) at halftime.

The second half mirrored the first for Bowie State as the Bulldogs outscored the Lady Bears 24-12 which featured five three-pointers made from a plethora of Bulldogs. Bowie State ended the third quarter with a 63-31 lead before ballooning to a 37-point lead in the fourth to cruise to the victory.

Following the conclusion of the game, Bowie State recognized four women's basketball seniors in Calhoun, Hutton, Jazmyne Scott (Brooklyn, MD) and Amani Ball (Laurel, MD).

The Bulldogs will return to action on Wednesday, Feb. 16 for a road tilt at Virginia State. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
