Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Bulldogs Fall to Fayetteville State, 85-67

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Three Bulldogs scored in double figures led by both junior Quinton Drayton (Bowie, MD) and sophomore Khalil Williams (Annapolis, MD) with 17 points apiece but the Bowie State men's basketball team (7-16, 5-7 CIAA) could not overcome the large deficit in the second half in an eventual 85-67 loss to Fayetteville State on Monday afternoon in Capel Arena.

Joining Drayton and Williams in double digit scoring was sophomore David McCullough (Bowie, MD) with 11 points while senior Dexter Turner (Washington, D.C.) grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

The Broncos (15-7, 10-2 CIAA) connected on all cylinders in the opening half, shooting 48.3-percent (14-29) from the field compared to the Bulldogs 34-percent (10-29). During the first nine minutes of play, Bowie State stayed within reach when Williams hit a jumper that tied the game at 13-all but a tip-in from Cress Worthy led to the Broncos going on a 23-8 run and a 35-14 advantage over BSU with 1:53 left in the half. Drayton scored the Bulldogs last five points to cut the deficit to 36-26 at halftime.

Bowie State orchestrated an 8-3 spurt to pull within five of Fayetteville State in the first five minutes of the second half but over a span of almost 10 minutes, FSU had built a lead as large as 27-points as 5:24 remained on the game clock. Eventually, the Broncos extended its lead to 80-52 on a dunk and the Bulldogs was never able to recover down the stretch.

Offensively, the visiting Bulldogs didn't have the best shooting day – connecting on 21-of-62 shots (33.9-percent), 6-for-17 from beyond the arc but has remained consistent from the free throw line accounting for 19-of-29 (65.5-percent) from the stripe.

Bowie State will resume division action on Thursday, Feb. 10 at Virginia Union with a tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m. from Barco-Stevens Hall.
