Offensive Woes Cost Bulldogs in Setbacks to Shippensburg

BOWIE, Md. – The Bowie State softball team dropped both games to the visiting Raiders of Shippensburg Wednesday afternoon at the BSU Softball Field. The Bulldogs fell 8-0, in six innings, in the opener and 6-0 in the finale.

Bowie State dips to 14-18-1 overall while Shippensburg improves to 20-12 on the year.

Game 1: Shippensburg 8, Bowie State, 0 (6 Innings)
The Raiders tacked on three hits and scored three runs in the third to take a 3-0 lead over BSU. Shippensburg added three more in the fifth on a triple from Alyssa Nehlen as she eventually scored on a single from Morgan Brumbaugh.

The Bulldogs trailed 6-0 after five innings before the Raiders scored two more in the sixth for the sixth inning win as Bowie State combined for just two hits in the contest. Freshman Lindsey George (Fayetteville, GA) dropped to 1-6 in the circle, allowing seven hits and walking one.

Game 2: Shippensburg 6, Bowie State 0
A single to right field for Shippensburg gave them the early 1-0 lead over Bowie State to start game two. In the second innings, the Raiders singled to plate one run in before Hannah Marstellar hit a grand slam to cap off Shippensburg four runs and 5-0 lead over the Bulldogs.

Offensively, BSU couldn't find a rhythm – the Bulldogs tallied just three hits in the finale with one in the fifth and seventh but it wasn't enough to put points on the scoreboard down the stretch, despite holding the Raiders scoreless over the next three innings.

Junior Akirra Pullen (Baltimore, MD) suffered the loss, allowing six hits, walking one in three innings pitched. She dips to 3-3 on the year.

Up Next:

Bowie State will continue to non-conference action on Saturday, Apr. 16 at Salem (WV) for a doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
