Bowie State Football and Men’s Basketball Earn CIAA Academic Honors for 2021-22

BOWIE, Md. – On Friday, Aug. 19, Bowie State University Athletics captured two Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) academic awards announced by the league office.

Bowie State football and men's basketball earned the 2021-22 Dr. Freddie Vaughns highest team grade point average. Football garnered a 2.89 team GPA while the men's basketball team posted a 3.21 team gpa.

The CIAA Highest Team G.P.A. Award was renamed prior to the 2018-19 academic year in honor of former Bowie State University Faculty Athletic Representative, Dr. Freddie Vaughns, who passed away in 2015.

Elizabeth City State women's tennis had the highest team grade point average among women's sports and across all sports with a 3.85 while Virginia Union men's golf had the highest among men's sports with a 3.66 cumulative grade point average. Claflin led the way with three teams (softball, men's indoor track, and women's outdoor track & field) receiving recognition.
