Webb's Game-Winner Leads Bulldogs Past Lincoln (PA) 57-56

LINCOLN, PA -- Junior Joel Webb (Forestville, MD) knocked down a shot with only seven seconds remaining in the game to put the Bowie State men's basketball team up for good in a 57-56 win against the Lincoln (PA) Lions on the road Saturday.

The Bulldogs (5-14, 3-4 CIAA, 1-0 North) had three players score in double figures, led by sophomore Kyree Freeman-Davis (Bowie, MD), who had 14 points. Junior Anthony Carpenter (Reistertown, MD) tacked on 14 points and senior Quinton Drayton (Bowie, MD) chipped in as well with 11 points, respectively.

Bowie State pulled down 43 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to the Lions 34, led by sophomore Caleb Johnson's (Baltimore, MD) eight boards at the guard position. The Bulldogs also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 15 rebounds into 13 second chance points.

The Bulldogs defense held LUPA to only 33.9 percent shooting from the field, including 16.7 percent from beyond the arc.

How It Happened
After falling behind 12-8, Bowie State went on a 10-0 run with 13:08 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Freeman-Davis, to take an 18-12 lead. The Bulldogs then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and held a 32-25 advantage at the break. Bowie State got a great contribution from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 17 of its 32 total points.

BSU kept its lead intact before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Carpenter's three, to grow the lead to 46-35 with 9:13 to go in the contest. The Lions narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still held on for the 57-56 win thanks to Webb's last second free-throw. Bowie State took care of business in the paint, recording 14 of its 25 points in the lane.
