Bulldogs Fall 61-49 to Fayetteville State

BOWIE, MD -- After trailing by as many as 25 points in the first half, the Bowie State men's basketball team cut the deficit to 12, but ultimately fell 61-49 to the visiting Fayetteville State Broncos (9-9, 4-2 CIAA) at home Monday night in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association action.

Caleb Johnson (Baltimore, MD) led the Bulldogs (4-14, 2-4 CIAA) with nine points and six rebounds. Warren Mouganda (Bowie, MD) also added nine points from the bench and Quinton Drayton (Bowie, MD) helped out with seven points and six rebounds.

Led by Amare Wimbush's (Landover, MD) four offensive rebounds, BSU pulled down 22 boards that resulted in 16 second chance points.

The Bulldogs forced 19 Fayetteville State turnovers while committing 14 themselves. BSU turned those takeaways into 18 points on the other end of the floor. Mouganda's one steal led the way for Bowie State.

How It Happened

Bowie State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 35-13 heading into halftime. The Bulldogs shot 17.86-percent from the field while the Broncos was responsible for 48-percent shooting.

FSU kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 47-24 advantage before Bowie State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Johnson's layup, to shrink the deficit to 47-31 with 9:57 to go in the contest. The Bulldogs kept their comeback going, but the Broncos managed to hold on for the 61-49 win. Despite the loss, Bowie State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 36 points in the lane.
