5 Different Bulldogs Score Touchdowns in Bowie State's 40-11 Win over Bluefield State

BLUEFIELD, WV -- Five different Bulldogs scored touchdowns, led by two scores from Jordan Morse, as Bowie State defeated Bluefield State, 40-11 on Saturday afternoon inside Mitchell Stadium.

The contest was the first-every meeting between the two teams. The Bulldogs improved to 4-4 on the year and 3-3 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play, the win also snapped a three game losing skid for BSU while the Big Blues fell to 1-6 and 0-6 in league action.

Morse led all Bulldogs rushers with 60 yards and two touchdowns in the contest, picking up six yards per carry. Carleton Stewart also added 48 yards and one touchdown on the ground and Keshane Hinckley reeled in seven catches for 78 yards. Jadon Carter led the Bowie State defensive effort, recording one interception while Devin Williams added four tackles, one interception, and two pass breakups, followed by Hasan Mosley with three tackles, 1.0 tacke for loss, and one interception in the win.

The Bulldogs won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing four turnovers while coughing the ball up one time, with BSU turning those takeaways into 19 points. Bowie State converted on 55.6 percent of third-down attempts on the day.

Bowie State's defense limited Bluefield State's offense, allowing 195 total yards. Additionally, the Bulldogs pestered the B-State's passing attack all game long, piling up six sacks and adding four interceptions.

BSU took care of business in the red zone, scoring five times on five trips inside Bluefield State's 20-yard line, with all of those scores being touchdowns.

How It Happened
Bowie State grabbed a 7-0 lead over Bluefield State after scoring the game's first points on a four yard rush from Stewart with 12:03 left in the second quarter.The Bulldogs then followed with another score which was Carter's pick six to expand the lead to 19-0.

A 35-yard field goal from Bluefield State cut the lead to 19-3 before Bowie State scored again (one yard scramble from Morse) with 4:53 remaining in the third quarter and pushed its lead to 26-3.The Bulldogs continued to extend their lead, scoring again to go on top 33-3 when Morse connected with James McNeill, III for a 17-yard reception TD.

BSU continued to increase its lead after B-State made it a 33-11 game, scoring again when Joshua Thurston ran through a pair of Big Blue defenders for his first career TD with 4:55 left in the fourth quarter, making the score 40-11 which ultimately would be the final.

» Isiah Teal led the Big Blues passing attack, completing 20 of his 43 attempts for 187 yards and one touchdown with four interceptions.
» Lucas Moore was Bluefield State's leading receiver with 93 yards.

LOOKING AHEAD
The Bulldogs will return home to host Elizabeth City State in its home finale and senior day on Saturday, Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. from Bulldog Stadium. Bowie State is 11-2 against the Vikings since 2009 and own a nine game winning streak heading into the series 40th meeting in program history.
