Football Travels to Lincoln (PA) For Regular Season Finale Saturday

BOWIE, MD -- Bowie State football will close out the 2023 regular season on Saturday, Nov. 4 when the Bulldogs travel to Lincoln, Pa., to take on the Lions of Lincoln (PA) from the LU Athletic Stadium with a kickoff time set for 1 p.m. The game will broadcast live on the CIAA Sports Network.

INSIDE THE SERIES
Saturday's game will mark the 14th meeting between Lincoln (PA) and Bowie State in program history. The Bulldogs owns an all-time record of 13-0 against the Lions.

RECAPPING LAST TIMEOUT
Behind a dominant defensive performance that held the Elizabeth City State (2-7, 1-6 CIAA)offense to 61 rushing yards, the Bowie State Bulldogs (5-4, 4-3 CIAA) knocked off the Vikings 19-7 at home Saturday afternoon for Senior Day and its home finale at Bulldog Stadium. Jordan Morse led Bowie State's passing attack with 105 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and one interception. The signal caller also added 61 yards on the ground. Joshua Thurston led all Bulldogs rushers with 63 yards and one touchdown in the contest, picking up 6.3 yards per carry while Christopher Ferguson reeled in three catches for 45 yards and one score.

Devin Williams paced the Bowie State defensive effort, totaling four tackles, one interception, and four pass breakups while Shawan Lewis added six tackles, 2.0 tackle for loss, and two sacks and Malcolm Sesay had one interception in the win.The Bulldogs won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing five turnovers while coughing the ball up one time, with BSU turning those takeaways into six points. Notable highlight for BSU's defense was that the Bulldogs disrupted the ECSU's passing game on the way to grabbing five interceptions and breaking up seven Vikings passes.

LEWIS EARNS CIAA ACCOLADE
Bowie State's Shawan Lewis earned his first career Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Defensive Lineman of the Week accolade following home win over Elizabeth City State, the conference office announced Monday. Lewis anchored the Bulldogs defense that forced five turnovers in BSU's 19-7 win at Bulldog Stadium. The redshirt junior finished with seven tackles, a team-best 2.5 sacks (13-yards) and 2.5 tackles-for-loss. The Baltimore, Md., native leads the team in tackle-for-loss (12.0) and sacks (7.5) in addition to his 40 total tackles which is the team's second best.

BULLDOGS DEFENSE RANKED IN NATION
Bowie State's defense rank 17th in Division II for third down conversion percentage (defense) at .290 and moved up to 13th in red zone defense (.630) after being 19th a week ago. BSU hopped back into the rankings for total defense this week at 298.1 and currently is ninth in the nation for team passing efficiency defense (94.07).

THE JACKSON ERA
The 2023 season will embark the first official season for first-year head coach Kyle Jackson. Jackson was officially named the 10th head football coach in Bulldog history on Jan. 23, 2023. The decision followed Jackson after serving in the role as interim in the 2022 season, where he led the team to a 6-4 record and eight players earned CIAA All-Conference honors, with Joshua Pryor being named the 2021 CIAA Defensive Player of the Year and five First Team All-CIAA selections. Additionally, Pryor and Jordan Griffin were both selected First Team and Second Team All Super Region Two honorees. Jackson also had five Bulldogs participate in the second Annual Black College Football HBCU Legacy Bowl in New Orleans.

HINCKLEY ON THE BLACK COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME WATCHLIST 
Bowie State wide receiver Keshane Hinckley was officially announced as one of the names on the official watch list of the 2023 Black College Football Player of the Year Watchlist, the Black College Football Hall of Fame announced in July. The Award is presented annually to the most outstanding football player from a Historically Black College & University. Hinckley is one of 11 student-athletes listed from the CIAA. The Laurel, Md., native led Bowie State and the CIAA in total receptions (56) in 2022. He registered a team-high (686) receiving yards (2nd in the CIAA) and a team-high (5) TDs last season. Four finalists will be unveiled after the season. The winner of the Black College Football Player of the Year Award, which will be announced during halftime of the 2024 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl, will be presented with the Deacon Jones Trophy. The Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl takes place on Saturday, February 24, 2024 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The game will be broadcast live on NFL Network.

SCOUTING THE LIONS
The Lions are 4-5 overall and 3-4 in the CIAA entering Saturday's season finale. Lincoln (PA) has lost its last two outings including a 75-25 defeat by the hands of Virginia State last weekend on the road. Through nine games, Lincoln (PA) has scored a total of 239 points, averaging 26.6 points per game (3rd in the CIAA) led behind Isaiah Freeman who leads the conference in passing yards with 2,058 yards and 22 touchdowns. In addition to the leagues passing leader, Malachi Langley, leads the CIAA in receiving yards with 870 yards and nine touchdowns. However, on the defensive side, the Lions are 12th in the league allowing its opponents to average 37.0 points per game for a total of 333 points. Rontay Dunbar, Londyn Thomas and Ronald Thomas, III are the Lions trio that either lead the team in pass break ups or interceptions while also top-10 in the league for those respective categories. Lincoln (PA) is 2-2 at home this season.
