BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State men's basketball team routed the Bald Eagles of Lock Haven in a 64-61 win at home Friday during the opening day of the Bowie State Tip-Off Classic inside A.C. Jordan Arena.
The Bulldogs (1-0) had three players score in double figures, led by Caleb Johnson, who had 19 points, five assists and two steals. Mark Bradshaw tacked on 16 points and four assists while Kyree Freeman-Davis chipped in as well with 10 points off of the bench.
BSU shared the ball well in Friday's game, racking up 17 assists on 26 made field goals. Johnson's five assists led the Bulldogs. Bowie State forced 21 Lock Haven turnovers while committing 15 themselves in Friday's game. The Bulldogs turned those takeaways into 28 points on the offensive end of the floor. Anthony Carpenter led the way individually with three steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 6-2, Bowie State went on a 13-0 run with 13:54 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Amare Wimbush, to take a 15-6 lead. The Bulldogs then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 32-27 advantage. BSU capitalized on 14 Lock Haven turnovers in the period, turning them into 16 points on the other end of the floor.
The Bulldogs kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Johnson's layup, to grow the lead to 45-35 with 14:39 to go in the contest. The Bald Eagles narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still held on for the 64-61 win. Bowie State capitalized on seven Lock Haven turnovers in the period, collecting 12 points off those turnovers.

Looking Ahead
Following the Bowie State Tip-Off Classic, the Bulldogs will remain home to host Millersville in nonconference action on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. from A.C. Jordan Arena. BSU is 3-1 all-time against the Marauders but fell short 69-60 last year at Millersville.
