Bulldogs Fall 82-61 to California (PA) to Close Out Tip-Off Classic

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State men's basketball team got a 20-point showing from the bench, but fell 82-61 to the California (PA) Vulcans at home Saturday to wrap up the Bowie State Tip-Off Classic inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Bulldogs (1-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Kyree Freeman-Davis, who had 12 points. Caleb Johnson tacked on 12 points and Amare Wimbush helped out with 12 points and seven rebounds.

Joel Webb pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace the Bowie State offense which grabbed 12 boards and turned them into 14 second chance points.The Bulldogs defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 14 California (PA) turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Kevon Corley led the way individually for the Bulldogs with one steal.

How It Happened
Bowie State fell behind early, which led to a 35-25 deficit at halftime.

The Vulcans (0-2) kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing an 82-55 advantage before BSU went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 82-61 with eight seconds to go in the contest, The Bulldogs were unable to cut further into the deficit by the end of the game, before succumbing 82-61. Bowie State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 13 of its 36 total points.

Looking Ahead
Following the Bowie State Tip-Off Classic, the Bulldogs will remain home to host Millersville in nonconference action on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m. from A.C. Jordan Arena. BSU is 3-1 all-time against the Marauders but fell short 69-60 last year at Millersville.
