WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Bowie State men's basketball team saw all five starters score at least 10 points, but it was not enough in a 68-67 loss to the University of the District of Columbia Firebirds (2-2) on the road Saturday on the road.
The Bulldogs (2-2) had five players score in double figures, led by Amare Wimbush, who had 16 points. Mark Bradshaw tacked on 14 points, six assists and two steals and Joel Webb helped out with 12 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Offensively, BSU piled up 18 assists on 24 made field goals. Individually, Caleb Johnson was on top of the distribution list for the Bulldogs with seven assists.
The Bowie State defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 15 UDC turnovers but the Bulldogs committed 14. Those takeaways turned into 13 points on the offensive end of the floor. Webb's two steals led the way individually for the Bulldogs.
How It Happened
After falling behind 14-9, Bowie State went on a 7-0 run with 15:09 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Wimbush, to take a 16-14 lead. The Bulldogs then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 39-34.
BSU narrowed its deficit to 54-52 before going on an 8-0 run to seize a 60-54 lead with 5:17 to go in the contest. UDC re-asserted control, outscoring the Bulldogs 14-7 the rest of the way to hand Bowie State the 68-67 loss. Bowie State took care of business in the paint, recording 20 of its 33 points in the lane.

Looking Ahead
Bowie State will remain on the road for a non-conference tilt at Shepherd on Sunday, Nov. 26 with a tip-off set for 5 p.m. Both teams are 4-4 since 2008 but the Bulldogs hope to snap a three game losing skid against the Rams on Sunday. The last outing between the two teams saw a 66-55 win for Shepherd in Bowie, Md., back on Nov. 27, 2022.
