Harris Scores 24 Points in Bowie State's 98-73 Loss to UDC

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Anii Harris collected 24 points, but the Bowie State women's basketball team fell to the UDC Firebirds 98-73 on the road Saturday.

Harris added three steals to her 24 point game to lead the Bulldogs (2-2). Katerra Myers helped out with 16 points and seven rebounds and Mia Smith chipped in with nine points and seven rebounds. Led by Shanysse Alexander's two offensive rebounds, Bowie State pulled down 16 boards that resulted in 18 second chance points.

Bowie State's defense held UDC to only 36.8-percent shooting from the field. The Bulldogs also limited Tori Williams to 2-of-13 shooting and six points in the game.

How It Happened
After falling behind 5-2, BSU went on an 8-0 run with 7:51 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Harris, to take a 10-5 lead. The Bulldogs then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 22-14.

UDC kept adding to that lead, building a 38-22 advantage before Bowie State went on a 6-0 run to narrow its deficit to 38-28. The Firebirds responded and expanded its lead, leaving the Bulldogs trailing 50-37 heading into halftime.

UDC continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 53-39 advantage before the Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run to trim its deficit to 53-45 with 8:37 to go in the third. UDC countered and stretched its lead to 71-55 heading into the fourth. BSU turned three offensive rebounds into four second chance points on the way to scoring 18 total points in the quarter.

UDC kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 94-68 advantage before Bowie State went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Khalia Turner's three, to shrink the deficit to 94-73 with 1:25 to go in the contest. UDC responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 98-73. Bowie State got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 11 of its 18 total points.

Bowie State will travel to Shepherd on Tuesday, Nov. 21 for a 1 p.m. start time in Shepherdstown, WV. The contest will mark the third-straight match up between the two teams with the series tied at 2-2. The last meeting occurred during the 2022-23 season with BSU winning big, 78-52 in Bowie.
