Bulldogs Cruise to 104-62 Victory Over Cheyney

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State men's basketball team held a 20-1 lead in the first eight minutes and never looked back to cruise to a 104-62 victory over Cheyney (0-6) Wednesday night in front of over eight hundred fans inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Bulldogs (3-3) had five players score in double figures, led by Emmanuel Ayetigo, who had 15 points. Mark Bradshaw tacked on 13 points and four steals and Corey Barnes helped out with 12 points, four assists and two steals off the bench.

Bowie State utilized excellent ball movement in Wednesday's game, piling up 24 assists on 42 made field goals. Individually, Anthony Carpenter led the way for the Bulldogs with six assists.

BSU's defense held shooters to just 36-percent from the field, including 25-percent from three-point range. Cheyne did not get many second chance opportunities as the Wolves grabbed six offensive rebounds and scored seven second chance points while Bowie State pulled down 29 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened
After jumping out to an 11-1 advantage, Bowie State went on an 11-0 run with 15:24 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Amare Wimbush, to increase its lead to 22-1. The Bulldogs then added 11 points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 55-23 advantage. Bowie State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 28 of its 55 points close to the basket.

Following intermission, Bowie State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 65-31 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Tyler Buckhanon's layup, to grow the lead to 72-31 with 14:24 to go in the contest. The Bulldogs kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 104-62 win. Bowie State took care of business in the paint, recording 38 of its 49 points in the lane.

Looking Ahead 
Bowie State travels to Rutherford, NJ on Monday, Dec. 4 to take on Felician at 7 p.m. This will be the second meeting between the two programs. The first meeting occurred during the Harlem Renaissance Classic in which the Bulldogs fell short 70-66 on Nov. 19, 2022, in Harlem NY.
