Bulldogs Win-Streak Snapped by Johnson C. Smith, 66-59

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State women's basketball team had its four game win-streak snapped Tuesday night as the Bulldogs fell to the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls (3-4, 1-0 CIAA), 66-59 at home inside A.C. Jordan Arena during Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action. Anii Harris and Katerra Myers combined to score 41 total points - 69.5-percent of Bowie State's points but it was not enough to overcome the streaky shooting from the Golden Bulls down the stretch.

Harris led the Bulldogs (6-3, 1-1 CIAA) with 28 points and four steals. Myers tacked on 13 points, six rebounds and four steals and Robyn Howard chipped in as well with eight points and five assists. Led by Myers' three offensive rebounds, Bowie State pulled down 16 boards that resulted in 11 second chance points.

BSU forced 27 JCSU turnovers while committing 19 themselves in the game. The Bulldogs turned those takeaways into 24 points on the offensive end of the floor. Myers' four steals led the way for Bowie State.

How It Happened
After falling behind 6-4, BSU went on a 9-0 run with 4:11 left in the first quarter to take a 13-6 lead. The Bulldogs then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 16-13 advantage. Bowie State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 10 of its 16 points close to the basket. The Bulldogs lost its lead in the second quarter and entered halftime trailing 36-25.

Bowie State came out of halftime on fire, going on a 10-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Mayah Garner, to trim its deficit to 36-35 with 6:23 to go in the third. JCSU countered and stretched its lead to 47-42 heading into the fourth. BSU took advantage of seven the Golden Bulls turnovers in the quarter, scoring eight points off of takeaways.

The Bulldogs took advantage of seven Johnson C. Smith turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways. Johnson C. Smith kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 62-52 advantage before Bowie State went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Harris' jumper, to shrink the deficit to 62-59 with 1:24 to go in the contest. JCSU responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 66-59.
