BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State men's basketball team got a 27-point performance from the bench, but fell 76-55 to the Winston-Salem State Rams at home Thursday night inside A.C. Jordan Arena in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division action.
Joel Webb led the Bulldogs (4-7, 0-2 CIAA) with 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Caleb Johnson tacked on nine points and Anthony Carpenter chipped in as well with two points and four assists. Led by Webb's three offensive rebounds, Bowie State tacked on 10 boards that resulted in 11 second chance points. A notable highlight for BSU was points in the paint in which the Bulldogs scored 14 of its 28 points in the lane.
How It Happened
BSU got off to a slow start, falling behind 44-27 heading into halftime. However, in the second half, the Bulldogs did manage to narrow the deficit to 50-37 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Webb's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 50-44 with 12:34 to go in the contest. Winston-Salem State (8-3, 2-0 CIAA) responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 76-55.
