BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State men's basketball team fell short, 71-67 to the Livingstone visiting Blue Bears at home Saturday afternoon inside A.C. Jordan Arena in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division action.
The Bulldogs (4-8, 0-3 CIAA) had three players score in double figures, led by Kyree Freeman-Davis, who had 21 points and two steals. Caleb Johnson tacked on 15 points and seven rebounds and Deven Richmond chipped in as well with 10 points. Led by Jimmy Sorunke's three offensive rebounds, Bowie State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in nine second chance points.
BSU came away with six blocks. Sorunke led the way individually for the Bulldogs with two rejections.
How It Happened
After falling behind 23-16, Bowie State went on a 12-0 run with 7:04 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Richmond, to take a 28-23 lead. The Bulldogs then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 34-27 advantage. Bowie State did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 22 of its 34 points close to the basket.
Livingstone then erased the Bowie State lead in the game's final quarter for a 71-67 comeback victory. BSU got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 17 of its 33 total points.
