BOWIE, MD --- The Bowie State women's basketball team will host Goldey-Beacom at home for its second-straight home contest on Tuesday, Dec. 5 at 5 p.m. inside A.C. Jordan Arena. The contest will air live on the Bulldog Sports Network.

The Series
The non-conference tilt will mark the third consecutive season that Bowie State and Goldey-Beacom have met as the Bulldogs hold a 3-1 record against the Lightning since the 2016-17 season.

The Bulldogs downed the visiting No. 20 California (PA) Vulcans (5-1) in a 74-61 victory inside A.C. Jordan Arena for its home opener Monday night. BSU never trailed after taking a 24-9 in the opening quarter. Bowie State (4-2) had three players score in double figures, led byÂ
Jayla Irvin, who had 22 points, seven rebounds and three steals.Â
Anii Harris added 19 points, four assists and three steals andÂ
Saniha Jackson helped out with 10 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Irvin pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Bowie State, grabbing 13 boards and turning them into 13 second chance points.
BSU forced 21 Cal (PA) turnovers that turned into 22 points on the other end of the floor. Irvin's three steals led the way individually for the Bulldogs. The win was the first time BSU defeated Cal (PA), having lost three straight prior to the tilt Monday.
Goldey-Beacom
GBS is 1-6 overall, coming off a 90-64 loss to Holy Family at home for its conference opener. The Lightning never led in the contest after falling behind 24-17 in the first quarter. Jenissa Varela led the effort with 17 points as GBC shot 35-percent from the field, including 25-percent from beyond the arc and 56-percent from the free throw line. Goldey-Beacom's lone win came against Mercy back on Nov. 26, 67-66 at home from the Joseph West Jones Center. The Lightning are 0-1 on the road and have played some familiar faces that the Bulldogs have met or will meet this season such as UDC in which they fell, 68-52 and CIAA foe in Lincoln (PA), a game they also surrendered in a 67-56 decision.Â
What's Next
The Bulldogs will begin conference play with a road trip to Orangeburg, S.C. to take on Claflin in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division action Saturday, Dec. 9 at 1 p.m. Bowie State is 5-0 all-time against the Lady Panthers.
