PETERSBURG, VA --The Bowie State men's basketball team got a 45-point performance from the bench, but fell 85-69 to the Virginia State Trojans on the road Wednesday night inside the VSU Multipurpose Center.
The Bulldogs (6-21, 4-11 CIAA, 2-7 North) had three players score in double figures, led by junior Mark Bradshaw, who had 15 points. Freshman Amare Wimbush added 11 points, six rebounds and two blocks off the bench and freshman Warren Mouganda helped out with 10 points from the bench.
Bowie State piled up 15 assists on 23 made field goals. Individually, sophomore Caleb Johnson was on top of the distribution list for the Bulldogs with five assists.
Bowie State disrupted Virginia State (17-9, 10-5 CIAA, 4-5 North) shots in the contest, coming away with eight blocks. Sophomore Elijah Rantin led the way individually for the Bulldogs with three rejections.
How It Happened
Bowie State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 36-25 heading into halftime.
The Trojans kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 59-40 advantage before BSU went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 59-46 with 11:12 to go in the contest. VSUÂ responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 85-69. Bowie State shot well from three-point range in the half, hitting six shots from deep to score 18 of its 44 points.
