Bulldogs Win Streak Snapped, Falls to Shaw 52-26

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State women's basketball team had its win-streak snapped at four after falling 52-26 to the visiting Lady Bears of Shaw University (12-12, 5-7 CIAA, 3-3 North) at home Saturday afternoon inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

Redshirt Sophomore Katerra Myers led the Bulldogs (12-9, 8-4 CIAA, 4-2 North) with five points and nine rebounds. Sophomore Anii Harris also tacked on seven points and two steals and sophomore Saniha Jackson helped out with four points.

Myers pulled down three offensive rebounds to lead an offense that tacked on second chance opportunities for Bowie State, grabbing 16 boards and turning them into five second chance points.

Bowie State forced 24 Shaw turnovers while committing 18 themselves. The Bulldogs turned those takeaways into 16 points on the offensive end of the floor. Harris' two steals led the way for Bowie State. For the game, BSU was held to 26-points - a season low, shooting just 16.9-percent from the field.

How It Happened
BSU struggled out of the gate, falling behind 12-5 at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs fought back in the second period, narrowing the deficit to 22-17 by the time halftime rolled around.

The Bulldogs deficit continued to grow after halftime, and BSU faced a 43-22 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Bowie State played well near the basket, scoring four of its five points in the paint but B could not pull any closer in the fourth.

» The Bulldogs held the Lady Bears to only 37.5 percent shooting from the field.
» Bowie State played solid perimeter defense, holding Shaw to 20-percent from three point land on 10 attempts.
» The Bulldogs defense forced 24 turnovers.
» Bowie State cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 16 offensive boards in the game.
» Harris led the Bulldogs with seven points.
» Bowie State got a team-high nine rebounds from Myers.
