All Bowie State Starters Reach Base in 7-1 Win over Chestnut Hill

GAME 1 | Bowie State 7, Chestnut Hill 1

BOWIE, MD -- Bowie State received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Bulldogs put seven runs on the board and knock off the Chestnut Hill Griffins 7-1 Saturday during game one of the doubleheader at the BSU Softball Field.

Senior Akirra Pullen (4-3) got the win for Bowie State (11-8). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.

In the batter's box, the Bulldogs were led by sophomore Jayla Hill, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Freshman Sydney Edmond put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-2 with a triple, two walks and an RBI. Sophomore Brittany Brewer also helped out for Bowie State, putting together three hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Bowie State's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a two-run home run off the bat of Hill.

The Griffins failed to push any runs across before the Bulldogs offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Bowie State scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Edmond, which brought the Bulldogs lead to 7-0. Chestnut Hill put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Bowie State still coasted to the 7-1 win.

GAME NOTES
» Brewer had three base hits in the game for Bowie State.
» Every Bowie State starter reached base safely in the win.
» Bowie State's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed six runs across.
» Four Bulldogs had multiple hits in the ballgame.
» The Bulldogs out-hit the Griffins at a 13-2 clip.
» Bowie State pitchers faced 24 Chestnut Hill hitters in the game, allowing 11 ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out three.
» The Bulldogs drew five walks from Chestnut Hill pitching.
» Hill led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBI.
» Chestnut Hill was led offensively by junior Steph Tonuci, who went 1-for-3.
» Freshman Gabriella Qu led the Griffins pitching staff, throwing 3.2 innings of three-run ball.
