Bulldogs Plate 10 runs in Victory over Washington Adventist

GAME 1 | Bowie State 10, Washington Adventist 6

BOWIE, Md., -- It was a difficult day for Washington Adventist pitchers, as the Bowie State Bulldogs racked up 10 runs en route to a 10-6 win over the Shock on Thursday afternoon at the BSU Softball Field.

Sophomore Lindsey George (6-4) started in the circle and picked up the win for Bowie State (20-9). The right-hander went five innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on four hits, allowing three walks and striking out six.

At the plate, the Bulldogs were paced by sophomore Ellianna Henneberg, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double and two RBI. Senior Akirra Pullen furnished a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Sophomore Kayla Evans also helped out for Bowie State, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Bowie State's offense started clicking and put up seven runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Evans and a two-run single from Pullen.

The Bulldogs then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the fifth inning after the Shock cut it to 7-3. Bowie State plated two runs off of Washington Adventist pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Henneberg, which brought the Bulldogs lead to 9-3.

Washington Adventist narrowed Bowie State's lead to 9-5 before the Bulldogs stretched the advantage to 10-5 in the sixth inning. Washington Adventist put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Bowie State still coasted to the 10-6 win.

GAME NOTES
» George struck out six Shock hitters.
» Bowie State's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed seven runs across.
» Evans stole five bases and freshman Trinity Mizelle swiped two in Thursday's game.
» The Bulldogs swiped nine bases as a team.
» BSU pitchers faced 37 Washington Adventist hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and six fly balls while striking out nine.
» The Bulldogs drew four walks from Washington Adventist pitching.
» Henneberg led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Bowie State begins Northern Division play on Saturday, Apr. 1 at Lincoln (PA). The conference doubleheader is slated to start the first game at 1 p.m.
