No. 8 Bulldogs Fall 6-2 to No. 1 East Stroudsburg in NCAA Atlantic Region Tournament

STROUDSBURG, Pa. -- The Bowie State Bulldogs struggled on Thursday, falling to the East Stroudsburg Warriors 6-2 despite the efforts of senior Shanya Gordon, who went 2-for-3 with an RBI during the opening day of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Region Tournament at Creekview Park.

Sophomore Lindsey George (14-7) started and took the loss in the circle for Bowie State (35-15). The right-hander went six innings, giving up six runs, two earned, on eight hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.

In the batter's box, the Bulldogs were paced by Gordon, who went 2-for-3 on the day with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs were trailing 5-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Bowie State scored twice, with one run coming across on Gordon's single. The Bulldogs were unable to get any closer, as East Stroudsburg (PA) added one run to their tally on the way to a 6-2 final.

GAME NOTES
» Bowie State's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Bowie State pitchers faced 29 East Stroudsburg (PA) hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and six fly balls while striking out five.
» Gordon led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI.
» ESU was led offensively by Jada Smallwood, who went 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI.
» Paige Zigmund led the Warriors pitching staff, throwing seven innings of two-run ball.

The Bulldogs falls into the loser's bracket and will face the loser between the No. 4 seed West Chester and the No. 5 seed West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday, May 11 at 1:30 p.m. from Creekview Park.
