BOWIE, MD -- The No. 1 seed Bowie State Bulldogs advances to the 2023 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Softball Championship Semifinal after earning a shutout victory over the visiting Lady Panthers of Virginia Union (9-23) Tuesday afternoon at the BSU Softball Field. Senior Akirra Pullen dealt on Tuesday, throwing a three-hit shutout to lift the Bulldogs over VUU, 3-0.
Pullen (11-7) went the distance for Bowie State (32-13), giving up three hits, walking none and striking out four.
Sophomore Morgan Joseph led the way offensively for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a triple.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the third, scoring for the first time in the inning. Joseph came across to score the lone run of the inning for Bowie State and get them on the board.
BSU then tacked on runs in the fifth and sixth innings, with their biggest output coming in the sixth when they scored one time.

» Pullen tossed a three-hit shutout for the Bulldogs.
» Bowie State's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed one run across.
» The Bulldogs out-hit the Panthers at a 7-3 clip.

» Bowie State pitchers faced 26 Virginia Union hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and seven fly balls while striking out four.
» The Bulldogs drew four walks from Virginia Union pitching.
» Joseph led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple.
