Women's Volleyball Travels to Georgian Court for Tri-Match Action Friday

BOWIE, MD. – The Bowie State women's volleyball team will return to action on Friday Sept. 8 for a tri-match hosted by Georgian Court University. The Bulldogs will take on St. Thomas Aquinas College at 3 p.m. followed by a night cap with Georgian Court at 5 p.m. in non-conference action. 

When: Friday, September 8 | 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Bowie State  
The Bulldogs (0-4) recently opened their season in the Frostburg State tournament last weekend. In the opening day BSU dropped matches against Pitt-Johnstown and Walsh by the scores, 3-0. On day two, the Bulldogs fell to both Frostburg State and East Stroudsburg by the scores 3-0. Despite the losses, freshman Mckenna Scott combined for 47 assists including a team-high 15 assists against the Warriors of ESU. 

St. Thomas Aquinas  
The Spartans (0-1) opened their season last weekend with a lost to Pace, 3-0. Jaizahir Marrero-George led the Spartans with 11 kills, Lea Venghaus recorded 11 assists, and Aurivette Santos Bonilla posted 11 digs for the Spartans. The Spartans are led by coach Robert Pichardo in his first season.  

Georgian Court  
Last season, Georgian Court was 11-18 overall and 7-10 in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC). GCU is 1-2 entering Friday's competition, the Lions fell to Southern New Hampshire (3-0) and Saint Michael's (3-2) but was able to defeat Saint Anselm in a 3-1 decision. Nylene Mateo leads the Lions with 45 kills while Jessica Sprankle tops the team with 42 digs, and Dayna Diaz has a team-high of 77 assists. The Lions are led by coach Shana Rayside also in her first season at the helm. 

Up Next 
The Bulldogs will host its home opener on Tuesday, Sept. 12 against Virginia University of Lynchburg at 6 p.m. in McKeldin Gymnasium.
