Kickoff is scheduled for 12 noon at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia, Mich. The game will be broadcast by FloSports.

Saturday's game marks the first meeting between the two teams. Both teams enter Saturday's contest with a 1-0 record.
LAST TIMEOUT
The Bulldogs opened the 2023 season with a 22-11 win over FCS Delaware State thanks to a hot start in the first half. After scoring the games first touchdown in the opening quarter, the Bulldogs expanded its lead 15-0 before DSU drilled a field goal to cut the deficit 15-3 at intermission. The Hornets scored its first TD in the fourth quarter but the Bulldogs responded on an 11-play, 75-yard drive to seal the deal. Bowie State outgained Delaware State 274-196, including a 247-134 advantage through the air.
Redshirt sophomore Amir Jenkins led Bowie State's passing attack with 247 yards through the air. Redshirt junior Corey Johnson totaled 38 yards to lead the BSU's ground attack in the game and redshirt junior Kevon Campbell also tacked on 21 yards and one touchdown on the ground while graduate senior Keshane Hinckley hauled in seven catches for 101 yards. Defensively, graduate senior Keith Williams made his presence felt in the passing game, recording three receptions for 93 yards. Graduate senior Uvel Paul, Jr. led the Bowie State defensive effort, collecting five tackles, 4.0 TFL, and three sacks. Jenkins added one recovered fumble as the Bulldogs combined for one tackle for loss and one forced fumble in the win.
PAUL, JR. EARNS DC TOUCHDOWN HONORABLE MENTION
Graduate senior Uvel Paul, Jr. was named this week's DC Touchdown Club Washington Metro College Football Player of the Week Honor Roll after his performance last weekend. Paul, Jr. made four tackles for loss, including three sacks, in the Bulldogs road victory at FCS Delaware State, 22-11.
HBCU D2 COACHES POLL
Bowie State football moved up two spots in this week's HBCU D2 Coaches Poll announced by BOXTOROW. The Bulldogs started the preseason poll at No. 6 before the season opener at Delaware State.
HINCKLEY ON THE BLACK COLLEGE FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME WATCHLISTÂ
Bowie State wide receiver Keshane Hinckley was officially announced as one of the names on the official watch list of the 2023 Black College Football Player of the Year Watchlist, the Black College Football Hall of Fame announced in July. The Award is presented annually to the most outstanding football player from a Historically Black College & University. Hinckley is one of 11 student-athletes listed from the CIAA. The Laurel, Md., native led Bowie State and the CIAA in total receptions (56) in 2022. He registered a team-high (686) receiving yards (2nd in the CIAA) and a team-high (5) TDs last season. Four finalists will be unveiled after the season. The winner of the Black College Football Player of the Year Award, which will be announced during halftime of the 2024 Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl, will be presented with the Deacon Jones Trophy. The Allstate HBCU Legacy Bowl takes place on Saturday, February 24, 2024 in New Orleans, Louisiana. The game will be broadcast live on NFL Network.
THE JACKSON ERA
The 2023 season will embark the first official season for first-year head coach Kyle Jackson. Jackson was officially named the 10th head football coach in Bulldog history on Jan. 23, 2023. The decision followed Jackson after serving in the role as interim in the 2022 season, where he led the team to a 6-4 record and eight players earned CIAA All-Conference honors, with Joshua Pryor being named the 2021 CIAA Defensive Player of the Year and five First Team All-CIAA selections. Additionally, Pryor and Jordan Griffin were both selected First Team and Second Team All Super Region Two honorees. Jackson also had five Bulldogs participate in the second Annual Black College Football HBCU Legacy Bowl in New Orleans.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS
The Davenport Panthers, a member NCAAÂ Division II member of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) is coming off a 31-17 win at home against Thomas More last weekend. DU held a 24-0 lead at halftime before the Saints rallied for 17 points in the second half but in the end, Davenport came away with the win capped by a 32-yard reception TD in the fourth quarter.
The Panthers were 8-3 and earned the programs first-ever bid to the NCAA playoffs in 2022 led by GLIAC Coach of the Year in Sparky McEwen. The Panthers averaged 30.6 points per game last year, including 365.7 yards per game which was fourth in the GLIAC while leading the league with 233.4 passing yards per contest. Defensively, DU yielded 29.3 points per game and 327.6 yards per game a year ago. The Panthers led the league in pass defense (155.1 yards allowed per game) and as a team combined for 23 sacks which ranked fourth in the conference. In the preseason poll, Davenport was recently projected to finish third in GLIAC behind Ferris State (1) and Grand Valley State (2).
CIAA PRESEASON POLL
Bowie State football has been selected to finish second in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA), as announced by the league office at the annual CIAA football media day in July. The All-CIAA Preseason Team was voted upon by the CIAA Football Coaches Association and Sports Information Directors. Of the 18 returning players from 2022, BSU had a pair of Bulldogs named to the CIAA Preseason Team includingÂ

Jadon Carter. Amongst the CIAA Divisions, Bowie State was projected to win the Northern Division while Fayetteville State, the 2022 defending champions was picked atop in the overall preseason poll and Southern Division.
LOOKING AHEAD
Saturday, Sept. 16 will mark the 14th meeting in the series that began with a 19-12 Bowie State loss on Oct. 1, 1977. The Bulldogs hold a 7-6 advantage in the series versus Shaw. Prior to last year's loss (17-14) on the road, Bowie State had won the last four outings against the Bears. The contest will serve as the home opener for the Bulldogs and is themed as the Athletic Alumni Appreciation contest that will broadcast live on HBCUGO TV.
