RICHMOND, VA -- The Bowie State men's basketball team kept the Virginia Union Panthers (8-12, 3-5 CIAA, 2-0 North) to just 20-percent from 3-point range in a 3-for-15 shooting performance, but stumbled 70-48 to the Panthers on the road Wednesday in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division action inside Barco-Stevens Hall.
The Bulldogs (6-13, 1-8 CIAA, 0-2 North) had two players score in double figures, led by Amare Wimbush, who had 14 points. Kevon Corley added 12 points and Caleb Johnson added eight points, six rebounds and three steals.
Bowie State capitalized on eight Virginia Union turnovers in the period, collecting seven points off those turnovers.
How It Happened
After falling behind 30-17, Bowie State went on a 5-0 run with 4:49 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Wimbush, to narrow its deficit to 30-22. Virginia Union answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Bulldogs down 34-25 entering halftime.
Virginia Union kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 68-42 advantage before Bowie State went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 68-48 with 35 seconds to go in the contest. VUU responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 70-48.
