Men's Basketball Heads to Elizabeth City State Saturday

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State men's basketball team will head to Elizabeth City, N.C., this weekend to face Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division foe Elizabeth City State on Saturday at 2 p.m. 

The contest will be streamed on the CIAA Sports Network.

About Bowie State
The Bulldogs (6-13, 1-8 CIAA, 0-2 North) are still in search of its first win in the northern division after falling to the Panthers of Virginia Union Wednesday night, 70-48. Through 19 games, Bowie State averages 68.8 points per game (10th in CIAA) while allowing 73.1 points (8th in CIAA) from its opponents. Shooting just 42-percent as a team (12th in CIAA), the Bulldogs are fifth in the league with a 3-point field goal percentage of 32-percent and 66-percent shooting team from the free throw line.

Caleb Johnson leads the Bulldogs in scoring at 11.3 points per game, while Joel Webb is next at 9.0 ppg and Amare Wimbush follows at 8.0 per contest. Webb leads in rebounding at 5.8 per contest. Johnson and Anthony Carpenter are the top two in assists with 90 and 53 respectively. 

Corley Owns CIAA Rookie of the Week
Tuesday, the CIAA announced for the fourth time this season that Bowie State's Kevon Corley was named this week's CIAA Rookie of the Week. Corley scored 10 points on 4-of-10 shooting (40-percent) from the field and 1-of-3 from the charity stripe to go along with four rebounds and a block against Lincoln (PA) last weekend. 

The Glenarden, Md., native has started the last two games for Bowie State and has scored in double digits in his last three outings including a 16-point performance at Shaw back on Jan. 13. Overall for the year, Corley is averaging 4.9 points per game, shooting 50-percent (27-53) from the field and 50-percent (14-28) from the 3-point line.

About Elizabeth City State
The Vikings (6-13, 3-6 CIAA, 1-1 North) return home after falling to Lincoln (PA) 65-64 on Wednesday night. Xavier Tubbs-Matthews scored 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting including 4-of-8 from the free throw line while Reggie Raynor added 10 points on 4-of-8 shooting as well. 

As a team, the Vikings is averaging 76.5 points per game and allowing 78.2 per contest. They're hitting 44-percent from the field (550-1228) while its opponents are 43-percent (498-1148), from the 3-point line ECSU has a percentage of 28-percent and 62-percent from the charity stripe compared to its opponents 31-percent (3-point line) and 71-percent from the free throw line. Tre Richard is the team's top scorer at 9.9 points per game, followed by Raynor's top rebounding average of 6.1 per outing. Christopher Wright and Eric Butler are the team's top assist leaders at 46 and 39 respectively.
