BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State women's volleyball team will travel to Elizabeth City N.C., for it's Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) rematch against the Elizabeth City State University Vinkings on Thursday Oct. 17th. First serve slated for 6 p.m. on the road inside the R.L Vaughan Center.

The Series
Thursday's match-up will be just the 34th time the two programs will meet, as the Vikings owns a 29-4 record over the Bulldogs. In the previous meeting, The Lady Vikings claimed a 3-0 sweep (34-32, 27-25, 25-21) over BSU inside A.C. Jordan Arena on Sep. 30.
Last Timeout for the Bulldogs
Bowie State (5-14, 2-5 CIAA) lost its last outing against CIAA foe Bluefield State University this past Monday in four sets 3-1 (23-25, 22-25, 26-24, 15-25). Offensively, Nina Edwards led the Bulldogs with 11 kills while Trinity Loundmon finished with 16 assists. On the defensive end, Taylor Johnson recorded 12 digs in the loss.
Johnson Earns CIAA Weekly Honor
On Tuesday, Johnson was selected as the CIAA Defensive Player of the Week. The award is Johnson's first defensive player of the week and third overall CIAA weekly honor. The Severn, Md., native posted a career-high 27 digs in the Bulldogs win over Virginia Union last Thursday. Johnson leads the team in digs with 189 on the season and has recorded three matches with at least 20 digs.
Being Persistent
In the last five CIAA matches, these Bulldogs have made an impact on the court. Edwards has recorded 50 kills and 20blocks. Edwards is ranked second in the CIAA with an average of 0.99 blocks and is third in hitting percentage at .385. Defensive Player of the Week Johnson has logged 77digs in the last five games while her freshman counterpart Loundmon has 85 assists and 36 digs. Shaska Davis has been making an impact offensively and defensively with 38 kills and 43 digs. Bowie State's 2.09 blocks per game is ranked second in the CIAA conference.

Elizabeth City State leaders are Jada Rouse with 121 kills and 20 aces, while Bowden is the team's leading passer with 205 assists. Naijya Leggett owns 246 digs and Andrea Rose has 58 blocks.

ECSU enters Thursday's match with a (7-11, 5-1 CIAA) record after losing to Virginia State University at home in four sets 3-1 (25-18, 25-23, 28-26,25-21) on Monday. Clarke Blakemore led the Vikings with a season-high 12 kills. Angel Bowden recorded 17 assists, while Kayleigh Sullivan had season-high five aces, 13 digs, and 16 assists. Defensively, Najiya Leggett racked up 21 digs and Andrea Rose had five blocks in the loss this past Monday. The Vikings are ranked first in the league when it comes to blocks with 2.20 per game and 16.45 kills per game.
