Women's Volleyball Heads to CIAA Round-Up Saturday and Sunday

BOWIE, MD --The Bowie State women's volleyball team will travel to Winston-Salem NC, Saturday, Oct. 5-6 to compete in the season's first Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up of the season inside the C.E. Gaines Center. The Bulldogs will take on Livingstone College and Fayetteville State University on Saturday, (Oct. 5) at 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., followed by Shaw University on Sunday (Oct. 6) at 9 a.m.

Last Timeout Bowie State
(3-11, 0-2 CIAA) snapped a six game losing streak this past Thursday sweeping the Gators 3-0 (28-26, 25-15, 25-21). Taylor Johnson led the charge for the Bulldogs with a season-high nine kills while finishing with a hitting percentage of .32. Trinity Loundmon finished with a season-high 10 digs and 10 assists. Additionally, Jaide Holliday set a season-high with three-aces, four kills, five digs, and four blocks in the win this past Thursday.
Staying Consistent
After snapping a losing skid, the Bulldogs have made an impact throughout the last five games. Johnson has recorded 55 digs while Nina Edwards logged in 31 kills, Loundmon has 68 assist and 30 digs, followed by Nicole Taylor's 35 kills, and 20 digs, and Mekenna Scott's 36 assists. BSU leaders throughout 14 games, Edwards leads in kills (74) and blocks (28). Johnson leads the team in digs (124) and aces (12). Loundmon is the team's leading passer with 156 assists and second in digs (70). Taylor is second when it comes to kills (63) and blocks (23). Scott is second on the team with 108 assists.

A Look at the Blue Bears
Livingstone owns a 6-3 overall record and 1-1 CIAA mark on the season as they are 2-2 within their last four games. The Blue Bears secured a win over Johnson & Wales (N.C.) 3-1 (28-26,25-27,25-16,25-11) on Oct.1. Penelope Johnson led the Blue Bears with 10 kills and six blocks, while Masa Simovic recorded 12 assists. Additionally, Mackenzie Morgan finished with 17 digs and Aubree Reyes had 11 digs and four aces in the win this past Tuesday.

A Look at the Broncos
Fayetteville State (7-1, 3-1 CIAA) posted a 3-1 record in its last four games. The Broncos recorded their first home win against CIAA foe Livingstone 3-0 (25-14,25-17,25-19) on Sep.26. Jourdan Page led the Broncos with 15 kills while finishing with a hitting percentage of .258. To add on, Allinson Torres finished with six aces and Jasmine Culp recorded 11 digs in the win. Jourdan Page and Amihan Johnson were selected CIAA Volleyball Players of the Week this past Monday. FSU ranks first in the league with 75 service aces.

A Look at the Lady Bears
The leagues reigning champion, the Shaw Lady Bears enters this weekend's round-up with the best record at 9-2 overall and 4-0 CIAA. The Lady Bears won on the road sweeping CIAA foe Claflin 3-0 (25-16, 25-18,25-14) on Oct.1. Talia Emmen led SU with 11 kills and a season-high two aces, while Amari Earl recorded three aces. Additionally, Cripa Manuela Nasser recorded 35 assists and Kalia Morris finished with 11 digs in the win this past Monday. Shaw leads the league in the following: assists (437), kills (486), hitting percentage (.269).
