Women's Volleyball Heads to Virginia Union on Thursday for Divisional Match-Up

BOWIE, MD --The Bowie State women's volleyball team will travel to Richmond VA, on Thursday, Oct. 31st to take on the Virginia Union University Panthers for a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) divisional rematch. Match time is set for 6 p.m. inside the Barco-Stevens Hall.

The Series
Thursday's match-up will be just the 33rd the two programs will meet, as the Lady Panthers own a 25-7 record over the Bulldogs.In the previous meeting, the Bulldogs won 3-2 (25-22, 25-21, 26-24,25-17,15-12) over VUU inside the A.C. Jordan Arena on Oct.10.

Bowie State (8-17, 5-6 CIAA) lost it's last outing to Millersville University (12-11) record, on Tuesday in a four-set match 3-1 (25-22,25-11,25-12,25-9).Offensively, Nina Edwards led the Bulldogs with nine kills, while on the defensive end, Mekenna Scott recorded a season-high eight digs and Nadira Avery with a season-high seven blocks in the loss. 

Players To Watch 
These Bulldogs have been must watch, Edwards leading the team in kills (160) and blocks (57). The team's leading passer Trinity Loundmon controls with 302 assists. Freshman Taylor Johnson leads the team in digs (289) and aces (20). Bowie State is ranked second in the league with an average of 2.09 blocks per game. 

A Look at the Panthers 
VUU enters Thursday's match with a (7-16, 4-6 CIAA) record, after going 1-2 this past weekend at the CIAA Round-Up II, losing to Johnson C. Smith University this past Saturday in a three-set sweep 3-0 and Winston-Salem State 3-0 (25-21,25-19,25-17) then Sunday defeating Clafin University in a three-set sweep 3-0 (25-16,25-14,25-13). The Lady Panthers leaders are Alana Simmons who leads the team in kills (207) and aces (41). Ashlee Franklin is the team assist leader with 335. To add on, Aireanna Johnson controls with 190 digs and Jade Lane has 57 blocks.

The Bulldogs will return home for their home finale and senior day against Bluefield University Monday, Nov.4 at 6 p.m. inside the A.C. Jordan Arena. BSU will recognize seniors Jaide Holliday, Shaska Davis, and Nicole Taylor
