Wimbush Scores 23 points in Bowie State's 88-83 Victory Against Cheyney (PA)

BOWIE, MD --Amare Wimbush scored 23 points to help lead the Bowie State men's basketball team past Cheyney University 88-83 at home inside A.C Jordan Arena Wednesday Night.

The Bulldogs (2-1) had three players score in double figures, led by Wimbush, who had 23 points, six rebounds, four assists and five steals. Victory Naboya tacked on 16 points and Justin Morrisey chipped in as well with 15 points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Bowie State shared the ball well in Wednesday's game, racking up 22 assists on 30 made field goals. Elijah Davis' eight assists paced the Bulldogs.

BSU's defense held the Wolves shooters to just 38.5 percent from the field.

How It Happened
After jumping out to a 9-5 advantage, Bowie State went on a 10-0 run with 15:54 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Kevon Corley, to increase its lead to 19-5. The Bulldogs then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 42-32 advantage. BSU capitalized on 18 turnovers in the period, turning them into 11 points on the other end of the floor.

Bowie State kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 83-75 with 2:42 to go in the contest. Cheyney narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still held on for the 88-83 win. Bowie State took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 46 points in the lane.
