Bowie State Falls 84-61 to Colorado Mesa Friday Night

GRAND JUNCTION, CO --The Bowie State men's basketball team got a 34-point showing from the bench but fell 84-61 to the Colorado Mesa Mavericks on the road Friday night from Brownson Arena in Grand Junction, Co. 

The Bulldogs (3-3) had two players score in double figures, led by Amare Wimbush, who had 12 points. Caleb Johnson tacked on 11 points off the bench, and Kevon Corley added eight points.

The Bowie State defense effectively took away the basketball in Friday's game, forcing 16 Colorado Mesa turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into six points on the offensive end of the floor. Justin Morrisey led the way individually for the Bulldogs with one steal.

How It Happened
Bowie State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 39-22 heading into halftime.

Bowie State could not pull any closer in the second half, losing by a final of 84-61. Bowie State got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 20 of its 39 total points.

» The Bulldogs put on a passing clinic, recording an assist on 64 percent of made baskets
» The Bowie State bench came alive by adding 34 points to its scoring output.
» Wimbush and  Johnson came off the bench to score 12 and 11 points, respectively.
