Bulldogs Fall 68-53 to Fort Lewis

GRAND JUNCTION, CO -- The Bowie State men's basketball team got a 29-point performance from the bench, but fell 68-53 to the Fort Lewis Skyhawks (5-3) at Brownson Arena Saturday to conclude the Colorado swing at Brownson Arena.

The Bulldogs (3-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Amare Wimbush, who had 12 points. Dylan Edwards tacked on 11 points from the bench and Caleb Johnson added seven points and four assists.

BSU's defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 16 Fort Lewis turnovers but the Bulldogs also committed 15 of its own. Those takeaways turned into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Corey Barnes led the way individually for the Bulldogs with two steals. Additionally, BSU capitalized on 10 Fort Lewis turnovers in the period, collecting 12 points off those turnovers.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 22-11 advantage, BSU went on a 14-0 run with 11:06 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Johnson, to increase its lead to 36-11. The Bulldogs then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 35-28.

After intermission, the Bulldogs managed to gain control and had a 50-42 lead before going on a 5-0 run, finished off by Detwan Montague's jumper, to grow the lead to 55-42 with 11:42 to go in the contest. Fort Lewis then asserted control, outscoring the Bulldogs 26--2 the rest of the way to hand Bowie State the 68-53 loss.
