Bowie State Gets 26 Bench Points in 62-56 Victory Over Shepherd

BOWIE, MD --The Bowie State men's basketball team got a 26-point showing from the bench on the way to a 62-56 victory over the Shepherd Rams at home Wednesday night inside A.C Jordan Arena.

The Bulldogs (4-4) had two players score in double figures, led by Kevon Corley, who had 13 points. Warren Mouganda added 11 points and Victory Naboya added eight points and two blocks.

Bowie State out-rebounded Shepherd 31-29 in Wednesday's game, paced by seven boards from Amare Wimbush.

BSU's defense was on full display as they held Shepherd to only 36.9 percent shooting from the field, including 24 percent from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs also limited Rams guard Jarod Robinson to 3-of-13 shooting and six points in the game.

How It Happened
After jumping out to an 18-12 advantage, Bowie State went on a 7-0 run with 9:45 left in the first half to increase its lead to 25-12. The Bulldogs then continued to add to their lead ending the period with a score of 37-23 at halftime. BSU's bench provided the spark that was needed in the first half, as non-starters accounted for 20 of its 37 total points.

The Bulldogs then held on for the victory in the second half not giving up the lead a single time heading toward the final buzzer.

Bowie State will travel into the valley of Pennsylvania to face off against Shippensburg University to continue their non-conference slate on Sunday, Dec. 1, at 3:00 p.m. from Heiges Field House in Shippensburg, Pa. The Bulldogs are 2-3 all-time against the Raiders and won their last matchup 70-69 at home in Bowie, Md.
