Bowie, MD. -- Five different players scored touchdowns, led by two scores from Maximus Jones, as Bowie State closed out their 2024 season by beating Lincoln (PA) 45-7 on Senior Day Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium.
The Bulldogs improved to 4-6 on the year and 3-4 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the Lions fell to 2-8 and 2-6.
Kevin Taylor led Bowie State's passing attack with 148 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and one interception. The signal caller also added 57 yards and one touchdown on the ground.
Micah Robinson led all Bulldogs rushers with 74 yards in the contest, picking up 9.2 yards per carry. Sam Doku also added 67 yards on the ground, averaging 9.6 yards per carry. Curtis Murray chipped in with 57 yards as well, averaging 4.1 yards per carry.
Antwain Banks reeled in five catches for 69 yards and one score.
LaTreil Wimberly paced the Bowie State defensive effort, totaling one interception. Odion Okojie added two pass breakups and one recovered fumble and Jamal Jones had four tackles, 2.0 TFL, and 1.5 sacks in the win.
The Bulldogs forced two turnovers in Saturday's contest, with BSU turning those takeaways into six points. Bowie State had a big showing on the ground, gaining 296 rushing yards while averaging 6.7 yards per carry and out-rushing Lincoln (PA) by 247 yards. The Bulldogs converted on 63.6 percent of third-down attempts on the day.
Defensively, Bowie State put together a stifling performance against the Lincoln (PA) offensive attack, holding the Lions to 90 total yards. The Bulldogs kept Lincoln (PA) under 100 yards on both the ground and through the air, allowing just 41 passing and 49 rushing yards.
BSU took care of business in the red zone, scoring five times on five trips inside LUPA's 20-yard line, picking up touchdowns on four of those trips.
How It Happened
After falling behind 7-0, Bowie State responded with a touchdown with 9:08 left in the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7. The Bulldogs proceeded to bust up the 7-7 tie with a seven-yard rushing touchdown, making the score 21-7.
BSU then added a touchdown with 12:12 remaining in the third quarter to make it a 29-7 lead. The Bulldogs continued to expand their lead, scoring again to go ahead 35-7.
Bowie State continued to build its lead, scoring again with 5:05 left in the third quarter to go ahead 42-7. The Bulldogs kept scoring, tacking on a field goal to increase their advantage to 45-7. Neither team scored again in the game.
