Bowie State Clinches First Win Over Lock Haven 85-80 in Double Overtime

BOWIE, MD --The Bowie State men's basketball team got a 31-point performance from the bench on the way to their first win of the 2024-2025 campaign 85-80 over the Lock Haven (PA) Bald Eagles at home Saturday night.

The Bulldogs (1-1) had four players score in double figures, led by Warren Mouganda, who had 18 points, six assists and three steals. Kevon Corley added 15 points and two steals off of the bench and Elijah Davis chipped in as well with 13 points and two steals.

Led by Tyler Buckhanon's two offensive rebounds, BSU did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in four second-chance points.

Bowie State did a great job disrupting Lock Haven (PA) shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Corey Barnes led the way individually for the Bulldogs with two rejections.

How It Happened
After falling behind 19-9, Bowie State went on a 6-0 run with 11:52 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Victory Naboya, to narrow its deficit to 19-15. The Bulldogs deficit remained the same as they entered halftime trailing 30-26.

Lock Haven (PA) kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 39-34 advantage before Bowie State went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Justin Morrisey's three, to seize a 40-39 lead with 12:36 to go in the contest. The Bald Eagles then fought back to even things up at 60-60 and send the game to overtime. Both teams evenly matched each other's intensity leading to a 71-71 score after the first overtime period. Bowie State capitalized on 10 Lock Haven (PA) turnovers in the period, collecting 10 points off those turnovers.

The Bulldogs kept it close in the second overtime period before going on a 5-0 run to seize an 85-80 lead with 22 seconds to go in the period, a score that would hold for the rest of the game.

Up Next
Following the Bowie State Tip-Off Classic, the Bulldogs will remain home to host Cheney University in non-conference action on Wednesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m. from A.C. Jordan Arena. BSU is 6-1 all-time against the Bulldogs and dominated the Wolves 104-62 last year at Bowie, Md.
