WILMINGTON, DE --The Bowie State men's basketball team was in complete control of the game, never surrendering the lead on the way to a 72-59 victory over the Goldey-Beacom Lightning on the road Tuesday inside of Joseph West Jones Center.
The Bulldogs (7-5, 0-1 CIAA) had three players score in double figures, led by Elijah Davis, who had 16 points, six assists and three steals. Amare Wimbush pitched in, notching a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds, while Justin Morrisey added 13 points from the bench.
BSUÂ showed why they are one of the best passing teams in the Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA), piling up 16 assists on 28 made field goals. Davis' six assists led the Bulldogs.
Bowie State did a great job disrupting Goldey-Beacom by controlling the paint, coming away with six blocks. Tyler Buckhanon and Victory Naboya tallied two rejections for the Bulldogs.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 33-26 advantage, Bowie State went on an 8-0 run with 2:52 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Davis, to increase its lead to 41-26. The Bulldogs slowed down offensively but still entered halftime with a 41-32 advantage. BSUÂ did most of its first-half damage in the paint, scoring 26 of its 41 points close to the basket.
Following the intermission, Bowie State kept widening that lead, expanding it to 45-34 before going on an 8-0 run, finished off by a Wimbush layup, to grow the lead to 53-34 with 13:56 to go in the contest. The Lightning narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still cruised the rest of the way for the 72-59 win. BSU continued attacking the paint in the second half, recording 16 of its 31 points down low.
