CHARLOTTE, NC --Justin Morrisey, Amare Wimbush, and Elijah Davis combined to score 39 of Bowie State's 52 total points, but the Bulldogs fell to the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls 60-52 on the road Saturday inside of Brayboy Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs (7-7, 0-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Morrisey, who had 16 points. Wimbush added 13 points and Davis chipped in as well with 10 points, six assists, and two steals.
Bowie State did a great job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 16 assists while turning the ball over eight times. Davis' six assists led the distribution list for the Bulldogs. Kevon Corley also added with three assists of his own.
BSUÂ forced 14 JCSUÂ turnovers while committing just eight themselves in Saturday's game. The Bulldogs turned those takeaways into 12 points on the other end of the floor. Davis' two steals led the way for Bowie State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 18-12, Bowie State went on a 5-0 run with 4:19 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Wimbush, to narrow its deficit to 18-17. Johnson C. Smith answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Bulldogs down 31-22 entering halftime.
JCSU kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 48-32 advantage before BSU went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Morrisey's layup, to shrink the deficit to 48-38 with 10:03 to go in the contest. The Bulldogs continued to find success at the rim, but the Golden Bulls maintained the lead they built for the 60-52 win. The Bulldogs had a dominant showing in the paint scoring 42 of their 52 total points inside the lane.Â
