Bulldogs Bring In The New Year With a Victory 69-66 Over The Broncos

BOWIE, MD --The Bowie State men's basketball team brings in the new year of 2025 by snapping a five-game losing streak to Fayetteville State, winning 69-66 in a Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) contest Saturday afternoon inside A.C. Jordan Arena. This was the Bulldogs' first conference win of the season. 

The Bulldogs (8-7, 1-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Elijah Davis, who had 18 points, nine assists and three steals. Justin Morrisey added 10 points from the bench and Joseph Allen helped out with 10 points from the bench.

BSU utilized excellent ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 16 assists on 25 made field goals. Davis had a season-high of nine assists which led the Bulldogs.

Bowie State forced 14 Fayetteville State turnovers. The Bulldogs turned those takeaways into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Davis' three steals led the way for BSU.

How It Happened
After falling behind 30-21, Bowie State went on a 6-0 run with 4:23 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Davis, to narrow its deficit to 30-27. Fayetteville State answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Bulldogs down 37-31 entering halftime.

The Broncos kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 41-31 advantage before the Bulldogs went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Warren Mouganda's layup, to shrink the deficit to 41-40 with 16:25 to go in the contest. After a Davis steal, Morrisey knocked down a layup to take the lead 61-60 with 3:18 left in the game. BSU held on to the lead for the remainder of the game taking the victory.  Bowie State took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 38 points in the lane.

Game Notes
» The Bulldogs shot well from three-point range, knocking down five of 11 long-range attempts.
» Bowie State recorded 16 total assists in the game.
» BSU's bench came alive by adding 28 points to its scoring output.
» Morrisey and Joseph Allen came off the bench to score 10 points a piece.
» The Bowie State defense forced 14 turnovers.
» The Bulldogs were active in affecting shots on the defensive end, tallying eight blocks as a team.
» Bowie State got a team-high five rebounds from Davis.

Bowie State will stay home to face off against Shaw University on Thursday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. for Education Day inside of A. C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, MD. Admission to the doubleheader will be free and fans are encouraged to wear pajamas for pajama day. The Bulldogs are 10-11 all-time against the Bears.
