BOWIE, MD --The Bowie State men's basketball team went into the half tied with UDC 33-33 but took control in the second half to defeat the Firebirds 73-70, winning the DMV showdown and extending their win streak to three games at home Wednesday night in A.C Jordan Arena.
The Bulldogs (6-4) had four players score in double figures, led by Elijah Davis, who had 16 points and five steals. Amare Wimbush tacked on a double-double with 15 points and 12 rebounds, and Warren Mouganda helped out with 10 points and two steals.
Bowie State did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in 14 second-chance points.
BSU forced 19 UDC turnovers while committing 15 themselves in Wednesday's game. The Bulldogs turned those takeaways into 21 points on the other end of the floor. Davis' five steals led the way for Bowie State.
How It Happened
After falling behind 11-5, Bowie State went on a 7-0 run with 14:57 left in the first half to take a 12-11 lead. UDC then responded to tie things up at 33-33 heading into halftime. The Bulldogs got the job done in the paint in the first half, scoring 18 of its 33 points inside the paint.
The Firebirds then snagged a 60-54 advantage before the Bulldogs responded by going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Mouganda's three, to seize a 62-60 lead with 4:05 to go in the contest. The Bulldogs kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 73-70 win. Bowie State capitalized on 12 UDC turnovers in the period, collecting 13 points off those turnovers.

Jordan Arena. The Bulldogs are 1-5 all-time against the Panthers and lost their last matchup 82-67 in Orangeburg, SC.
