BOWIE, MD --The Bulldogs men's basketball team held Elizabeth City State to just 15.4 percent from deep in a 2-for-13 shooting performance on the way to a 64-56 win against the Vikings in a Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) Northern Division matchup at A.C. Jordan Arena Saturday night.
The Bulldogs (8-16, 3-10) had two players score in double figures, led by Warren Mouganda, who had 19 points. Caleb Johnson tacked on 18 points and three steals and Anthony Carpenter added nine points and four assists.
Bowie State grabbed 34 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Elizabeth City State's 33, led by six boards from Joel Webb.
The BSU defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 14 Elizabeth City State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 12 points on the offensive end of the floor. Johnson's three steals led the way individually for the Bulldogs.
How It Happened
BSU struggled out of the gate, falling behind 25-20 heading into halftime.
The Bulldogs narrowed its deficit to 30-27 before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Mouganda's jumper, to seize a 36-30 lead with 14:06 to go in the contest. The Bulldogs kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 64-56 win. BSU got out on the break in the period, scoring 10 fast break points.
