Bulldogs Finish 2-0 on the Day with 9-1 Victory against Kentucky State

DUNCAN, S.C. -- Adrianna Dockett and Sydney Edmond each racked up three hits to help lead the Bowie State Bulldogs past the Kentucky State Thorobreds (1-3) 9-1 on Saturday to wrap up day one of the HBCU Softball Challenge at Tyger River Park.

Karen Fritzges (1-0) got the win out of the bullpen for Bowie State (3-2). The right-hander went three shutout innings without giving up a hit, one walk and striking out one. Taylor Dawkins started the ballgame and went four innings, surrendering one run on two hits, walking three and striking out two.

In addition to her three hits, Dockett had two RBI to lead the Bulldogs. Edmond added an RBI to her three-hit performance as well. Aliyah Smith also chipped in for BSU, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs scored in six different innings on the way to the win. BSU broke a 0-0 tie and took the lead for good at 1-0 in the first inning

GAME NOTES
» BSU got three-hit games from both Dockett and Edmond.
» Bowie State's highest scoring inning was the fourth, when it pushed three runs across.
» BSU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
» Four Bulldogs had multiple hits in the ballgame.
» The Bulldogs out-hit the Thorobreds at a 13-2 clip.
» BSU pitchers limited KSU to just 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
» Bowie State pitchers faced 30 Kentucky State hitters in the game, allowing eight ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out three.
» Dockett led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Following the CIAA/SIAC Challenge, Bowie State will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Howard on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 12 noon.
