BOWIE, MD -- On Sunday, April 28, the Bowie State University Department of Athletics will host the 2024 BSU Athletics Awards Ceremony to recognize and honor over 280 student-athletes who have participated in athletics throughout the year. The awards ceremony will feature a highlight video of the 2023-24 athletic season along with individual and team awards, as well as coaches' remarks.
The post-season awards ceremony will take place at the Leonidas S. James Physical Education Complex inside A.C. Jordan Arena on campus and begins at 2 p.m. The sneaker ball-themed awards ceremony is $25 for all interested parents, guests, and spectators, tickets can be purchased online or the day of the event. All proceeds benefit Bowie State Athletics.

Below are the descriptions for the awards:
Female Athlete of the Year
Awarded to the female student-athlete who brings honor and distinction to their team, the University and the community through athletic accomplishment at the highest level and whose name is synonymous with Bowie State athletics and winning. This award is voted on by the entire banquet committee.
Male Athlete of the Year
Awarded to the male student-athlete who brings honor and distinction to their team, the University, and the community through athletic accomplishment at the highest level and whose name is synonymous with Bowie State athletics and winning. This award is voted on by the entire banquet committee.
Coach of the Year
Awarded to the coach who has accomplished the most significant growth in his/her program during the past academic year. This award is voted on by the entire banquet committee.
Team Awards:
Newcomer of the Year
Selected in each sport by the head coach. The Newcomer of the Year award goes to the athlete who the coach feels has made the most significant contribution to the team both on and off the playing field. Can be a first-year student, or transfer student despite classification.
Most Valuable Player
Selected in each sport by the head coach. The Most Valuable Player award goes to the athlete who the coaches feels has made the most significant contribution to the team both on and off the playing field.
Unsung Hero Award
Selected in each sport by the head coach. Awarded to the person who has gone above and beyond the call of duty in support of the Bowie State Athletics program. A behind-the-scenes contributor who rarely receives recognition.
