Bulldogs Drop Two Matches Day One of Charleston Tournament

BOWIE, MD- The Bowie State volleyball team couldn't find away to get in control of the Golden Eagles Friday evening in three sets (20-25,22-25,17-25) and things stayed the same against D'Youville in three sets (16-25, 16-25, 24-26) as the Bulldogs drop to 2-7 on the season at Wehrle Innovation Center day one of the Charleston Tournament. 

GAME 1 | Charleston, 3 - Bowie State, 0
The Bowie State volleyball team lost to the Charleston (WV) Golden Eagles in straight sets (20-25, 22-25, 17-25) Friday on the road at Wehrle Innovation Center.The non-conference loss moved Bowie State to 2-6 on the season.Nina Edwards finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Bulldogs offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .5. Taylor Johnson recorded   12 digs to lead the team defensively.

Game Notes
» Bracey Gross had a team-high two aces in the loss.
» Edwards had a team-high eight kills for BSU.
» Bowie State got a match-high 12 digs from Johnson.
» BSU attackers were helped by a team-high 16 assists from Mekenna Scott.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs found themselves in an early deficit, losing the first set 25-20. Bowie State trailed by as many as six points as Charleston (WV) grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was tied up four times before the Golden Eagles took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 2 | BSU then lost the second set 25-22 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as six points as Charleston (WV) grabbed the advantage for good at 17-16 in a set that was knotted up two times before the Golden Eagles took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | Bowie State could not win the third set and was swept by Charleston (WV). The Bulldogs lost a tough set 25-17. BSU trailed by as many as eight points as Charleston (WV) grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 in a set that was knotted up five times before the Golden Eagles took over the lead.

GAME 2 | D'Youville, 3 - Bowie State, 0
Iman Wright finished with seven kills on the day to lead the Bulldogs attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .333. Defensively, two players reached double figures in digs: Johnson had 14 and Ayana Johnson had 12. From the front row, Edwards contributed five blocks.

SET 2 | Bowie State then dropped the second set 25-16 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Bowie State trailed by as many as nine points as D'Youville grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 in a set that was tied up five times before the Saints took over the lead.

SET 3 | D'Youville finished off the sweep with a set-three win. The Bulldogs fell in a tight set, losing 26-24 in a stanza that was tied seven times and had three lead changes.
