WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Bowie State men's basketball team (9-7, 1-3 CIAA) secured a thrilling 76-70 victory over the Howard Bison in a non-conference basketball match up at Burr Gymnasium on Wednesday night. In front of a lively crowd of 2,100, the Bulldogs put on a stellar team performance to claim the win.
Leading the charge for Bowie State was guard Warren Mouganda, who delivered a standout performance. The D.C. native Mouganda poured in an impressive 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting from the field, including 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. He also contributed eight rebounds, three steals, and two assists, making his presence felt on both ends of the court.
How It Happened
Bowie State found themselves in a battle early, trailing 40-42 at halftime after a back-and-forth first half. Despite the deficit, the Bulldogs remained poised, leaning on playmakers Warren Mouganda and the inside presence of Victory Naboya to mount a second-half comeback.
Naboya was a force in the paint, grabbing crucial rebounds and providing second-chance opportunities that swung the momentum in Bowie State's favor. His energy and physical play helped anchor a defense that forced key turnovers down the stretch.
In the closing minutes, Bowie State took control with clutch scoring and composed execution. Mouganda knocked down a crucial three-point shot to take a 76-73 lead with 2.08 seconds left in the second half to secure the win. The team outscored Howard 36-31 in the second half.
