Bulldogs Edge Past Lincoln (PA) 71-66

Philadelphia, PA --The Bowie State women's basketball team (12-5, 6-1 CIAA) out-rebounded the Lincoln (PA) Lady Lions (8-9, 4-3 CIAA) 34-31 on the way to a 71-66 win on the road Saturday afternoon inside the Bobby Morgan Arena. 

The Bulldogs (12-5, 6-1 CIAA) had two players score in double figures, led by Destiny Ryles, who had 16 points. Beulah Odiong tacked on 14 points and seven rebounds. To add on, off the bench Ayasha Thomas recorded seven points and two rebounds and Sydney Anthony added six points, six rebounds and three steals.

Bowie State out-rebounded Lincoln (PA) 34-31 in Saturday's game, led by seven boards from Mayah Garner. The Bulldogs defenders held the Lady Lions to 43.8 percent from the field and shot 84.2 percent from the free-throw line, connecting on 16-19 attempts. 

The Bulldogs forced 18 Lincoln (PA) turnovers. Bowie State turned those takeaways into 21 points on the offensive end of the floor. Anthony's three steals led the way for BSU. Bowie State largest lead in the game was 19 in the win. 

How It Happened
After falling behind 12-11, Bowie State went on a 6-0 run with 2:50 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Garner, to take a 17-12 lead, a score that would hold for the rest of the period. BSU did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 17 points close to the basket.

The Bulldogs kept its first quarter lead intact before going on an 8-0 run starting at the 5:57 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Anthony, to increase its lead to 29-16. Bowie State kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 38-25 advantage heading into halftime. BSU dominated in the paint, scoring 12 of its 21 points close to the basket.

Bowie State wasted no time building on its lead, going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Odiong, to expand its lead further to 44-25 with 7:54 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Lions had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Bulldogs still entered the fourth quarter with a 63-53 edge. BSU played well near the basket, scoring 14 of its 25 points in the paint.

The Bulldogs then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter. Bowie State took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring four of its eight points in the paint.
