Bowie State Hoops Host Elizabeth City State for 90's Day

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State men's basketball team will bring out the flattops and cool shades for 90's Day in a Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) northern division match-up against Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 4 p.m. inside A.C. Jordan Arena.
  
The doubleheader will be streamed live on the Bulldog Sports Network.

Clear Bag Policy 
  

Fans will only be able to carry the following style and size bag into the stadium, all of which are subject to search. 
  

• Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC and do not exceed 12" x 6" x 12" 
  

• One-gallon clear plastic freezer bag (Ziploc bag or similar) 
  

• Small clutch bags measuring 4.5" x 6.5" with or without a handle or strap 
  

• All other bags will not be permitted. A list of prohibited bags includes but is not limited to purses, backpacks, drawstring bags that are not clear, briefcases, coolers, fanny packs, luggage, computer bags, camera bags, binocular cases, and diaper bags. Guests are encouraged to return unauthorized items to their vehicles. Bowie State University cannot safeguard items that are not permitted into the stadium.

The Series 
    

• The Bulldogs have won three of the last five meetings against the Vikings entering Saturday's match-up.  
  

• In their last meeting, Bowie State defeated Elizabeth City State, 64-56, inside A.C. Jordan Arena in Bowie, Md.  
  

• BSU has a 13-2 advantage in A.C Jordan Arena against ECSU.  
   

Scouting Bowie State  
  

Bowie State (9-10, 1-6 CIAA, 0-2 North) is looking for their first CIAA North Division win heading into their match-up against Elizabeth City State. So far this season, BSU is a team known for playing in the passing lanes and protecting the paint. The Bulldogs are ranked second in the CIAA in blocks per game (4.6) while being ranked fourth in steals per game (9.5). BSU also shares the ball well, as they are ranked fourth in the conference in assists per game (13.9). Bowie State's leading scoring and rebounder is Amare Wimbush, who averages 10.6 ppg and 5.5 rebounds.Elijah Davis' 4.4 assists per game is ranked fourth in the CIAA. Davis also is ranked second in the conference in steals per game (2.5). 
  
   

Last Time Out for the Bulldogs  
  

The Bulldogs dropped their last match-up at home against Virginia Union, 62-50, inside A.C Jordan Arena Wednesday night. Davis led the way for the Bulldogs scoring 13 points while dishing out five assists and grabbing four rebounds. Justin Morrisey also chipped in with 10 points, knocking down two three-pointers and hauling in five rebounds. BSU received a boost from their second unit outscoring VUU 22-6 throughout the game. Bowie State also took advantage of Virginia Union's sloppy play, scoring 18 points off turnovers. 
   

 
Scouting Elizabeth City State  
  

Elizabeth City State (10-7, 3-5 CIAA, 1-1 North) is one of the many high-powered offenses in the CIAA averaging 79.4 ppg which has them ranked third in the conference. The Vikings are efficient as a team knocking down 46.2 percent of the field goals and 35 percent of their three-point attempts placing them fourth in the conference in both categories. Xavier Tubbs-Matthews leads ECSU in scoring averaging 13.6 ppg, while tallying four assists a game respectively. Dericko Williams is second on the team in scoring averaging 13.5 ppg while leading the CIAA in rebounds with 10.9 rebounds per game.  
  

 
Last Time Out for the Vikings 

The Vikings are coming off a back-and-forth match-up against the Lions of Lincoln (PA) University but fell, 72-68, inside of R.L. Vaughn Center in Elizabeth City, NC. Reggie Raynor led the way for ECSU scoring 17 points with five rebounds and a block. Williams notched a double-double with 16 points, 15 rebounds, and two blocks. Jaquante Harris rounded out the double-digit performers scoring 12 points at Elizabeth City State. The Vikings scored 28 points inside the paint while receiving 14 second-chance points and points off turnovers.

Bowie State will play one game away from home as they face off against CIAA opponent Virginia State on Wednesday, Jan. 29, at 7:30 p.m. inside of VSU Multipurpose Center in Petersburg, Va. The Bulldogs have a record of 14-17 against the Trojans dropping their last meeting against VSU 66-58 on Feb. 21, 2024.
